THE POP SHOW: An exhibition of painting, film & music by JORDAN BARNES

To celebrate New Zealand Music Month, KINA Gallery is delighted to host an exhibition of paint, film and music by artist Jordan Barnes. This show, titled THE POP SHOW, opened Thursday 20th May at 5.30pm.

This exciting exhibition showcases Barnes’ recent work which reflects his love for popular culture and his interest in photorealism. Barnes’ paintings focus on random moments in time, capturing the beauty in the ordinary. To accompany his paintings he has also been working in film, which has enabled him to merge his creative interests of music, film and painting into a cohesive whole.

Barnes says that film has shown him a new and exciting way to express his creativity. He has recently just finished his first music video, which is also on show in this exhibition. This video was created with a good friend and director, Chris Campbell and features a song written and performed by Barnes himself. On the subject of music, Barnes explains:

Without music, I couldn’t paint. I gain more inspiration from music than any other source. Music has always been an important part of my life, from the first day I picked up the guitar, to writing my first song when I was eleven, to recording songs and creating music videos. I want to succeed as a musician as much as I do a painter.

THE POP SHOW is on show in the KINA gallery until the 15th June 2010.

Please call Kina (06) 759 1201 for further details.
